Ce dessin animé au ton adulte rend enfin hommage à l'esprit sombre et noir des comics books originaux de Bob Kane, bien plus que l'amusant et kitsch feuilleton (souvent diffusé sur France 3) ou le vieux dessin animé de Filmation.
Batman retrouve son esprit torturé et ses démons et retrouve dans cette série à l'intrigue narrative poussée tous les grandes figures de la BD : ses amis bien sûr (le commissaire Gordon, Robin, Batgirl, Alfred...) mais aussi toute une armada de criminels qui mettent à feu et à sang l'inquiétante ville de Gotham City, tous en proie à la folie et à un esprit malade et cinglé...
Pour les fans, cette série est jouissive puisqu'elle met aussi en scène des personnages plus "inédits" et récents des comics books à l'instar de Killer Croc, Ras Al Ghul, Bane ou le Ventriloque. Elle se paie même le luxe d'avoir donné vie au personnage de Harley Quinn, devenue tellement populaire qu'elle finira par être intégrée aux BD Batman ! Il existe enfin une autre saison, "Batman and Robin adventures", ratachée à la série, et aussi un film Batman contre le fantôme masqué.

Résumé: Simon Trent, an actor best known for his past role as "The Gray Ghost", is on the verge of bankruptcy thanks to his declining career. To save himself, he sells off all of his Gray Ghost merchandise. Immediately afterwards, a series of crimes related to the old show begin to occur. To save himself, he sells off all of his Gray Ghost merchandise. Immediately afterwards, a series of crimes related to the old show begin to occur. Batman, having himself been inspired partly by the show to become the crimefighter he now is, goes to Trent for help, and they team up to put an end to the crimes.
In this episode, the voice of Simon Trent is none other than Adam West, the man who played Batman in the 1960's version of Batman
