L’épuisement professionnel ne faisait pas partie des plans de Valérie Danault.
Femme disciplinée, organisée, dotée d’une énergie peu commune, professionnelle accomplie, divorcée de frais, mère d’un petit bonhomme qui fait sa joie, Valérie n’a qu’un maître : son agenda. Jusqu’au petit matin d’une journée hyper chargée où Valérie trouve un pou dans la tête de son fils.
Ce petit contretemps cause un léger retard dans l’emploi du temps de cette superwoman notoire, ce qui entraîne une regrettable distraction, qui provoque un fâcheux incident, qui l’amène au poste de police, ce qui lui fait manquer l’important rendez-vous qui provoquera l’engueulade avec son patron et au cours de laquelle des paroles regrettables seront échangées.
Partant de là, les écluses lâchent. Congédiée, mise au repos forcé, obligée de réduire son train de vie, Valérie doit faire un grand ménage et contempler son existence dans le blanc des yeux, avec sa mère sur le dos.
Déterminée à aider sa fille à passer au travers, Madeleine croit comprendre Valérie. D’autant plus qu’elle a elle-même tout misé sur sa brillante carrière de journaliste, avant de frapper un mur, suivi d’épisodes dépressifs. Telle mère, telle fille? Heureusement, l’ex de Valérie, Éric et son chum, Kevin, seront d’un grand secours, car dans les circonstances, Valérie n’a peut-être pas la force nécessaire pour se consacrer à son fils, pour remonter la pente ou pour gérer les autres personnages qui se trouveront invariablement sur sa route : son père, le policier qui l’a arrêtée et sa femme, sa voisine, l’animateur-vedette Stéphane Labelle, etc.
Cette adepte du « quand on veut on peut » va découvrir qu’il est parfaitement possible de manquer de l’énergie suffisante pour mastiquer une tranche de pain. Bienvenue dans le monde de l’épuisement professionnel.
